Mission:To enable single parents to attain self-sufficiency through post-secondary education.

About: SPSFBC was founded in 1984 by Marjorie Marugg-Wolfe. As a career counselor with NTI, Marjorie saw that single parents had to face additional barriers that made it difficult for them to complete their educational goals. Because of this, Marjorie founded SPSFBC to help break those barriers and make it possible for single parents to succeed.

Services: SPSFBC was designed to supplement existing government assistance and college grants and loans, the scholarship awarded by our program encourage students to enter school and help them to avoid dropping out because of unexpected financial hardships. More than just tuition assistance, scholarships are also used for: transportation, child care, medical expenses, textbooks and fees, eye exams and glasses, housing and utilities, technology expenses, dental services and supplies. SPSFBC takes a holistic approach to serving our single parent families by also providing free counseling services to recipients and children, offering a non-food dry goods pantry, professional development conference, career and educational counseling, tutoring, resume and interview assistance, and much more.

Volunteer opportunities: SPSFBC always welcomes volunteers to help serve our single parent families. We have opportunities to serve on our Advisory Council, Alumni Council, volunteering with events, administrative tasks, workshops, student interviews, etc. Anyone interested in volunteering can fill out the SPSFBC Volunteer Interest Form on our website at www.spsfbc.org
