Mission:  We restore hope, empower people and save lives through suicide awareness and crisis intervention services for those experiencing crisis in Arkansas. By helping anyone and everyone in any type of crisis, we can combat Arkansas’s rising suicides rates. Our vision for Arkansas is Zero Suicides by 2025.

About: Following a rash of teen suicides in 1985 at Rogers High School, a group of concerned volunteers realized the importance of providing hope through helpline services to teens in crisis in Northwest Arkansas. The vast need for our helpline quickly became apparent, and we expanded to provide these services to all age groups from all 75 counties in Arkansas. 

Services: By calling our helpline at 888.274.7472 our crisis Call Specialists confidentially and anonymously offer intervention and counseling, link the caller with resources in their area, and ultimately, save lives by preventing crises from becoming life-threatening. At the Arkansas Crisis Center, we believe in providing help for today and hope for tomorrow.

Volunteering: The Arkansas Crisis Center started as a volunteer-run organization.  The need continues for people who believe in the work we do to prevent suicide, reduce stigma, intervene in crisis and bring awareness to the state of Arkansas.

Our volunteers are sensitive, compassionate, nonjudgmental individuals who are devoted to the cause of helping others and intervening in crises. They are a diverse mix of every age, culture and background, yet they have one thing in common – a desire to help Arkansans in crisis.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training:

Just as CPR skills make physical first aid possible, training in suicide intervention develops the skills needed for verbal suicide first aid. ASIST is a two-day (14 hours) intensive, interactive, and practice-dominated course designed to help caregivers recognize risk and learn how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.

By utilizing the above training processes throughout the ASIST workshop, participants are able to see, hear and learn the information and skills needed to provide suicide first aid. They have the opportunity to practice these skills in both large group and small-workgroup formats by the end of the course.

Adult Mental Health First Aid (Blended):

Virtual Blended Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a 2-hour, online, Self-Paced Introduction Course, followed by a 6-hour instructor led, interactive training, using videoconferencing technology at Central Standard Time (CST). Participants will be able to become certified in MHFA from the comfort of their own workspace.

Mental Health First Aid is a nationally recognized, evidence-based training that provides people the basic tools to help someone who might be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. MHFA can save a life, just like CPR can save someone who is having a heart attack.
