Beachy Texas duo Surfaces make upbeat, feel-good pop influenced by 1970s R&B, electronica, and hip-hop. Based out of College Station, Texas, Surfaces formed in 2017 and features the talents of singers, songwriters, and producers Forrest Frank and Colin Padalecki. Padalecki began making music in high school with his cousin, singer Alexa Padalecki. He continued working on tracks while attending Texas A&M, where he posted songs online. His music caught the attention of the Seattle-based Frank, who invited Padalecki to come record with him on his houseboat.
The band broke through with their 2017 album Surf, featuring the single "Be Alright." Buoyed by the hit "Sunday Best," they cracked the Billboard 200 with their sophomore LP, 2019's Where the Light Is. Following 2020's Horizons, they collaborated with Elton John on the song "Learn to Fly" and returned to the Billboard 200 with 2021's Pacifico. The pair's fifth album, Hidden Youth, arrived a year later.
