Imagine living in fear in an oppressive nation with no opportunities and little to no hope of seeing your children grow up in a safe environment. This is exactly what the Samadi family had been enduring before fleeing their home in Afghanistan for safe haven, and a dream of a better life in the United States.
Arriving in Northwest Arkansas this past March, the nine members of the Samadi family settled into a modest two bedroom apartment. With seven children to raise, ages newborn to 12 years old, their responsibility is enormous.
The Samadi's were nominated by a group of teachers at an elementary school in NWA where three of the children from this remarkable family currently attend. Where the Samadi's came from, only boys were allowed to attend school... Therefore, this is the first time their three girls have ever had the chance to receive a formal education; a privilege they are thrilled to experience! The entire family has fully embraced this opportunity to live a new way of life in Northwest Arkansas.
The group of teachers that nominated the Samadi family have done their best with their limited resources to help however they can with food and clothing, but the need is great. Even still, these teachers have become like family to the Samadi's. Coming from a life of so much hardship, the Samadi's have been humbled by strangers wanting to help, showing kindness, and caring for them.
Their father made tremendous sacrifices to bring his family here. With the help of a trusted friend, he was finally able to start a new life in the U.S. However that new start meant starting over with practically nothing. No money, no family, no resources.
Since their arrival, the father has been working overnight shifts at a local chicken plant to support his family. There is one vehicle shared between other families at the factory that are also working night shift. During the day, he helps care for their younger children and their newest addition—a baby born just weeks ago. Despite the many challenges they face, the Samadi family remains optimistic and deeply grateful for the opportunity to rebuild their lives. They now have hope again.
