Why You Matter

You and I want to matter. We want our lives to really mean something and count for something good.
This might sound obvious, but let’s not take it for granted... Bear with me...
Whether we want to or not, do you and I matter? This question speaks to our worldview about human life.
Some would say “no.” There’s nothing beyond physical matter. We are cosmic accidents, and our only real value is the few dollars’ worth in our chemical make-up. Such a low value of life and purpose will direct what we care about or if we care at all or have any sense of significance.
Some would say “it depends.” We only matter to the extent that we are productive and add value. Significance, then, is tied to how well a person does and how much value others place on their performance. We are what we do and how well we do.
Some would say “yes” we are significant. And, I would say our value is given by a loving God who created us on purpose and for a purpose. He has hand-crafted each of us with unique finger prints and braids of DNA to be loved and to love, regardless of how we might stumble through life more or less successfully.
Because God’s steadfast love endures, our significance is sure, period.
